Kingslegal is a specialist litigation and commercial law practice with offices in Cardiff and Solent. We are committed to working for the Insurance industry and national mortgage providers. We defend claims for the Insurance industry on behalf of the insurer, insured, and self-insured alike.

As members of the Insurance Fraud Investigators Group (“IFIG”), Kings Legal is committed to raising the profile of insurance fraud as a crime and shares relevant intelligence via the National Intelligence Model in a manner which is compliant with the Data Protection Act.

Our clients

We act for major Insurers including Axa, The Co-operative Insurance, Link Insurance company, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance company, Zenith Insurance and Zurich in the UK. Our self-insured clients are large commercial organisations ranging from public utilities (such as Scottish and Southern Energy) to oil companies and car manufacturers.

Kingslegal is different from traditional solicitors’ practices; we are first and foremost a corporate business which provides commercial legal solutions. Our focus is to work in partnership and co-operation with our clients and our staff at all levels to provide the most sensible and effective outcome.

Kingslegal has identified radical changes within the Insurance industry and claimants’ approach to litigation. We have therefore structured the practice to ensure that we have a sustainable business model which delivers optimum service at optimum cost to all of our clients. Kingslegal has achieved this without compromising on quality, whilst sustaining our clients’ own brand awareness.

To achieve our goal, in recent years we consulted with our stakeholders (employees, clients, clients’ customers) and, in partnership with them, undertook three major projects to achieve our goal. The model had to allow us to add value to our clients by provision of a more commercial and proactive client focussed service. This included the introduction of enhanced service level agreements for our clients, whilst improving employee participation and awareness.

The projects included:

  • A wholesale restructure of the practice
  • Introduction of performance management techniques with a view to creating a new industry standard, including development and use of comprehensive benchmarking and key performance indicators linked with auditing, training, collation of management information and development of case management programmes
  • A complete upgrade of our IT systems which we now continue to develop with an ongoing programme

We have developed our own internal benchmark standards for the insurance industry which we have called Pragma and have developed similar high level performance protocols for our mortgage debt recovery department.

We have introduced Pragma to our PI and disease teams to improve delivery of service; it identifies the key performance indicators by which our individual lawyers work and are managed. These benchmarks emphasise the need to have effective discussions and open negotiations with third parties, and to drive the case to settlement or early hearing by using an agreed case strategy. This ensures a commercial settlement is achieved that represents value to both Insurer and Insured in terms of reduced cost to client and ensures that brand value is respected.

We use an external independent rolling quarterly audit programme which ensures the work of the lawyers is audited for compliance against the benchmarks and any additional service level agreements that are in place; it identifies training needs and assists us to develop best practice which enables us to continually raise our performance and the benchmarked standards we work to. This programme is complemented by obtaining ISO accreditation, engagement of a Lexcel consultant and our commitment to obtaining external quality marks including IIP.

Our case management system has undergone significant enhancements. We have worked with our clients using the CMS to produce user friendly and meaningful management information to help manage and assess the service we provide. The use of performance management techniques continues to be an integral part of our business model alongside commitment to life-long learning, improvement and to be best practice providers to the industry.

In addition to our internal management systems we retain external consultants to assist us with the development of our business and to carry out external audits to help determine:

  • The correct level of expertise is being applied to each case
  • Compliance with service level agreements
  • Compliance with internal standards

These reports are fed back to team leaders and the management board. The quality of every individual’s work is reviewed, as is the team collectively.

Within the teams, team leaders and supervisors use the case management system to review the quality of decision making, strategy/case plans and advice and reserves provided to clients by individual fee earners.

We also use the management information feedback which we receive from clients, which provides comparable ratings, with other panel members for measuring performance.
